about

A song about the ones who leave.

Just over a year ago, I went whale watching with my wife in Victoria. I remember being so in awe of one humpback that we saw that I forgot to take any pictures of it. Whales are funny creatures, because they are sea-dwelling mammals. Some can hold their breath underwater for an incredible amount of time, submerging and then re-emerging long distances away.
Sometimes people are like that - they weave in and out of your life. This song is for the ones you can't call, the ones you can't reach, but you wonder what would happen if you could.

lyrics

I felt the tremors in the early light
Watching the water run
My hands were drowning deep inside the sink
But I couldn’t let them see the sun

It’s not a question I can answer straight
If that’s what you really want
I’ll just keep on trying to leave you all alone
Maybe that will be alright

We were standing in the shadow of a neon sign
I remember leaving teardrops on the c-train line
Where’d you run off to?
Silent as a midnight moon
Could I call you soon?

I woke up sweating in the dark of night
Couldn’t recall my thought
All I saw in front of me were big red eyes
And I swear they got me oh so lost

I heard a whisper on the radio
Asking if I felt at peace
Did my very best to answer honestly
But the truth doesn’t come easily

We were standing in the shadow of a neon sign
I remember leaving teardrops on the c-train line
Where’d you run off to?
Silent as a midnight moon
Could I call you soon?

I'm black and blue
I thought that I could see you through
But I’m walking with the ghosts that roam this town
Could I call you soon?

We were standing in the shadow of a neon sign
I remember leaving teardrops on the c-train line
Where’d you run off to?
Howling at the moon
Could I call you soon?
